چکیده

Human identifi cation leads to mutual trust that is essential for the proper functioning of society. We have been identifying fellow humans based on their voice, appearance, or gait for thousands of years. However, a systematic and scientifi c basis for human identifi cation started in the nineteenth century when Alphonse Bertillon (Rhodes and Henry 1956 ) introduced the use of a number of anthropomorphic measurements to identify habitual criminals. The Bertillon system was short-lived: soon after its introduction, the distinctiveness of human fi ngerprints was established. Since the early 1900s, fi ngerprints have been an accepted method in forensic investigations to identify suspects and repeat criminals. Now, virtually all law enforcement agencies worldwide use Automatic Fingerprint Identifi cation Systems (AFIS). With growing concerns about terrorist activities, security breaches, and fi nancial fraud, other physiological and behavioral human characteristics have been used for person identifi cation. These distinctive characteristics, or biometric traits, include features such as face, iris, palmprint, and voice. Biometrics (Jain et al. 2006, 2007 ) is now a mature technology that is widely used in a variety of applications ranging from border crossings (e.g., the US-VISIT program) to visiting Walt Disney Parks.

A Survey of Biometric Gait Recognition: Approaches, Security and Challenges

Biometric systems are becoming increasingly important, since they provide more reliable and efficient means of identity verification. Biometric gait recognition (i.e. recognizing people from the way they walk) is one of the recent attractive topics in biometric research. This paper presents biometric user recognition based on gait. Biometric gait recognition is categorized into three groups bas...

Evaluation of the Parameters Involved in the Iris Recognition System

Biometric recognition is an automatic identification method which is based on unique features or characteristics possessed by human beings and Iris recognition has proved itself as one of the most reliable biometric methods available owing to the accuracy provided by its unique epigenetic patterns. The main steps in any iris recognition system are image acquisition, iris segmentation, iris norm...

Multimodal Biometric System Using Iris - Fingerprint: An Overview

Biometric recognition is automated recognition of individual based on the physiological and behavioral characteristics. Unimodal biometrics are facing problems like noisy data, intra class variation, inter class variation, spoofing attack etc. These limitations can be solved by using multimodal biometrics. Comparing to unimodal, multimodal biometric systems are performing better. A multimodal b...

Technical Review of Multi Model Biometrics System

Biometrics refers to automatic recognition of individuals based on their physiological and/or behavioral characteristics. Unimodal biometric systems allow person recognition based on a single source of biometric information but cannot guaranty a perfect identification. Such systems are sensitive to noisy sensor data, non-universality and lack of individuality of the chosen biometric trait, and ...

Robust Iris Recognition in Unconstrained Environments

A biometric system provides automatic identification of an individual based on a unique feature or characteristic possessed by him/her. Iris recognition (IR) is known to be the most reliable and accurate biometric identification system. The iris recognition system (IRS) consists of an automatic segmentation mechanism which is based on the Hough transform (HT). This paper presents a robust IRS i...

Unimodal & Multimodal Biometric Recognition Techniques A Survey

Biometric recognition refers to an automatic recognition of individuals based on a feature vector(s) derived from their physiological and/or behavioral characteristic. Biometric recognition systems should provide a reliable personal recognition schemes to either confirm or determine the identity of an individual. These features are used to provide an authentication for computer based security s...
